Amid the controlled chaos of university life, one organization sponsored an event to help students slow down and breathe, one bead at a time.

JARQYN, a student organisation which was created to help students maintain strong mental health, provided students with a much-needed two-hour break from their studies by offering the supplies, beads, and gentle know-how to create some jewelry.

Bead Therapy is an annual workshop held by JARQYN, where students can design their own bracelets, rings, or necklaces in a relaxed and creative atmosphere. This session received an overwhelming response, with more than 40 participants taking part in the beadwork on Feb. 26.

“This event holds a special place in our organization,” said Nozanin Khassanova, president of the JARQYN Club and reporter at the KIMEP Voice. “Many of our members and students still cherish the rings and bracelets they designed in past sessions. In March, we are excited to offer more opportunities for mindfulness and relaxation through art and movie therapy, peer-to-peer support, and clay therapy.”

For many students, the workshop evoked a sense of nostalgia, reminding them of childhood moments spent crafting.

“The last time I held beads in my hands was in primary school,” said Anel Beisen, a first-year student. “I eventually gave up on this hobby because I never considered myself a very creative person. However, I’m really enjoying the cozy vibe, music, and people around me while making a bracelet for my sister.”“This is my first time participating in a JARQYN event, as I only joined this semester,” said Talshyn Talgatkyzy, a new member of the organization. “At first, I thought it would be challenging to oversee and assist students with their crafts since I’m a novice at jewelry-making. However, this turned out to be the most enjoyable part. I met and talked to many people, which left me with a lasting impression. Now, I’m excited to take part in JARQYN’s future events.”

At the beginning of the session, students were provided with a QR code containing tutorials on how to make beaded jewelry. Lo-fi music filled the room as students selected and strung beads at their own pace, some quietly chatting and others quietly focusing on their work. While some participants confidently crafted their pieces, others faced small challenges along the way. Nine JARQYN members walked through the area, guiding students and offering support.
