Incoming freshman said they came to KIMEP because it offers them better career opportunities than other universities as well as high-quality teaching, a recent survey revealed.

The Office of Quality Assurance and Institutional Research at KIMEP University released its findings from a survey aimed at understanding the motivations behind first-year students’ decisions to enroll. Conducted from September 16 to September 18, the survey reached undergraduate freshmen.

The initiative, requested by the Office of the President, utilized Google Forms to collect data from students. Following the launch, reminders were sent through WhatsApp and email to encourage participation. The survey garnered a response rate of 87 freshmen, with notable representation from the Bachelor of Finance, Bachelor of International Relations, and Bachelor of Arts in Translation Studies programs. Notably, over 43% of respondents hailed from Almaty.

Key Findings

Respondents were asked to identify the six most important reasons for choosing KIMEP University. The results highlighted the following top reasons:

  1. Better Career Opportunities – 74 votes
  2. Reputation and Prestige of the University – 73 votes
  3. Excellence and Quality of Academic Training – 62 votes
  4. Community and Networking Opportunities – 59 votes
  5. English as the Medium of Instruction – 59 votes
  6. Presence of International Faculty Members – 44 votes

In addition, students ranked various attributes according to their importance in the decision-making process. The three most frequently selected ‘very important’ attributes were:

  1. High Quality Teaching – 70 votes
  2. High Graduate Employment Rate – 65 votes
  3. Good Opportunities for Networking – 58 votes
